O. MYKOLAICHUK-NYZOVETS’ PLAY «TAKE THE WAITER DOWN FROM HEAVEN, OR WHY DO WE NEED LAST YEAR’S SNOW»: AN ATTEMPT AT A TEXTUAL READING

Abstract

The article is devoted to the textological analysis of two editions of Mykolaichuk-Nyzovets’s play “Take the Waiter Down from Heaven, or Why Do We Need Last Year’s Snow”, which makes it possible to trace the evolution of the author’s style and dramaturgical thinking. The study focuses on comparing lexical modifications, structural additions, and the expanded system of stage directions that significantly influence the formation of scenic logic, the psychological motivation of the characters, and the play’s tempo-rhythm. The analysis also incorporates the playwright’s interview, which allows the reconstruction of the author’s creative laboratory and his understanding of dramaturgy as an open system capable of transforming in response to social challenges and audience experience. The study makes it possible to determine the play’s place within the context of contemporary Ukrainian “transitional period” drama and to outline the prospects of its stage interpretations, in which the text emerges as a multilayered and dynamic dramatic organism. The research was conducted as part of an educational project during the study of the discipline “Textological Practicum”.
