Abstract
The article examines the representation of Persephone in S. Saint-Clair’s novel Touch of Darkness through the prism of classical mythology and contemporary fantasy narrative. It traces the stages of the heroine’s transformation and emancipation and interprets the archetype of the female victim. The specificity of the depiction of characters is determined, primarily Persephone’s relationship with Hades and Demeter, the symbolism of darkness and narcissus. Attention is focused on the feminist reception of the image of Persephone in the context of contemporary literature.
